Upper Mustang Trekking
Upper Mustang trek is one of the historical and remote areas trekking in Nepal. Which is lies in Trans Himalayan district of Western region of Nepal. This is remote trek with adjoining plateau of Tibet, where you can find the real Himalayan cultures domain by the Tibetan society. During your trek may explores the ancient Monastery, more than thousand years of hundreds ruined cave and Himalayan mountain desert with local tribes domain with Tibetan society are the main attraction of this areas. This region is located on the western Himalayan range and adjoining with Tibetan border of the Nepal. Mustang is a rain shadow area and still has a Mustangi Raja (state king of the Mustang) only one state king of Nepal.
The trip starts from the beautiful Lake Town of Pokhara and crossing the Annapurna conservation area to get to Upper Mustang entry border. Either fly to Jomsom or walk from the Beni will reach at entry point of Mustang called Kagbeni. We start our trek through the Holy river bank of Kaligandaki and follow the up stream to get to Lo-Mangthang, which is capital of the Mustang. On this trek you may have chance to explore the thousand years of old monastery, caves, local tribes and scenic beauties of the different landscapes. You’ll have a great chance to accomplish the blessing from the King and the royal palace during the visit. The trek to Lo-Manthang is through an almost tree-less barren landscape, a steep rocky trail up and down hill and panoramic views of Nilgiri, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and several other peaks make your remarkable adventure holiday.

Itinerary in Detail
Day 01: Arrival day in Kathmandu (1,300m/4,264 ft) Namaste & welcome to Himalayan country of Nepal. While you landed at the Tribhuvan intl. airport our representative welcomes you with your name and assists to transfer in your hotel in Kathmandu. After time to get refreshed & rest, pick you up for briefing about the program and evening for welcome dinner in one of the typical Nepalese restaurant with cultural program in the heart of Kathmandu and overnight at Hotel. Day 02: A Guided sightseeing in Kathmandu Valley After your breakfast to head on for our guided day trip to world heritage sites in Kathmandu valley and visit the highlights of Kathmandu and the surrounding areas. We take you to visit the pilgrimage sites of Hindus temple Pashupatinath, one of the most important shrine of Shiva temples on the subcontinent which is place of thousand of devotees, Saddhus (holy men/Baba), and can be seen the cremating body most of the times in the holy riverbank of Bagmati. Hundreds of monkeys are giggling with you and take a time to exploring surrounding area and visit Bouddhanath stupa an another pilgrimage centre which is most popular and important place for Buddhist. You can explore with rounding prayer wheel and flattering colorful flag with melodious chanting noise. After visiting Bouddhanath stupa we’ll drive to the City of Devotees (Bhaktapur). This traditional and traffic free town is the third biggest town in the Valley. We’ll explore the medieval like squares, courtyards and temples of this vibrant town. After a stop for lunch at restaurant in Bhaktapur it’s time to drive back to Kathmandu and meet up with your travel consultant & fellows to prepare for next day and overnight at the hotel. Alternatively, the same group may have option to choose same 3 sightseeing place inside Kathmandu valley instead of these given place. Day 03: Pokhara to Jomsom to Kagbeni Fly to Jomsom. From Jomsom follow the Kali Gandaki River route forward to Eklebhatti and reach Kagbeni. From Kagbeni the route meets the junction where the trail splits for Muktinath, the pilgrimage temple and for Upper Mustang (Lo-Manthang). Kagbeni is a delightful village on the edge of the Mustang restricted area; it’s a hive of activity for donkey and yak caravans coming and going to and from mustang and for pilgrims taking a rest on route to Mukthinath. In Kagbeni, you can easily spend a few hours wondering around taking in this lovely village. Overnight at Kagbeni. Day 04: Kagbeni to Chele (3,100m) From Kagbeni you enter the restricted area of Upper Mustang. The trail makes several ups and downs to arrive at Tangbe village (3060m). Walking further and descending you will reach to Chhuksang village (2980m) where you will see many beautiful white washed houses and agriculture fields. From Chhuksang making more ups and downs along the Kali Gandaki River you will get to Chele village. Overnight at Chele. Day 05: Chele to Geling (3,570m) From Chele the trail climbs up to the Chele La (3,630m) (pass). After crossing the ridge from Chele La the trail enters a large sided valley and descends to Samar (3620m) where you will have views of the distant Annapurna Himal dominated by Nil Giri. The trail climbs up to the Bhena La (3830m) and to Bhena (3860m). Climbing to another pass, the Yamdo La (4010m), you will descend steeply following a ridge to Shyangmochen (3800m). From Shyangmochen you descend to the picturesque village of Geling, spend some time here soaking up the village atmosphere. Overnight at Geling. Day 06: Geling to Charang (3,560m) Turning west from Geling, climbing gently through the fields, passing below Tama Gaon and turning north you will reach Nyi La (4020m). The trail then drops steeply to Ghemi (3510m), a large village surrounded by many fields busy with the activity of the local people working this arid landscape. From Ghemi the trail first descends and then climbs a rocky path to Choya la (3870m). Making a gentle descent the trail reaches to Chharang. Overnightat Chharang Day 07: Charang to Lo Manthang (3,840m) the trail descends from Charang, crosses the Charang Chu and climbs steeply up a rocky trail, then enters theTholung valley. The trail turns north and climbs gently to a large isolated chorten, then crosses a stream and reaches the LoLa (3950m) where you will see the view of the walled city of Lo Manthang. Descending for some time the trail crosses a stream and climbs up to Lo Manthang where you will see the school, health post, and police check post and several important chortens. Overnight at Lo Manthang. Day 08: In Lo Mathang this day will be spent in this mystical and isolated city. You will awake to the mystical sounds of monks chanting and the heady sent of temple candles. After having breakfast you will visit the four major temples within the city walls. The major attraction of this area is the three storey’s Jampa Lhakhang, the red Thubchen gompa with a massive assembly hall, Chodey gompa and Choprang gompa. After visiting the temples you will take a walk to visit the ACAP office and to Tarchun Gurung’s shop where you can climb up to the roof for a view of the town, and buy a memento to take away with you. Return back to Lo Manthang Camp. Overnight at Lo Manthang. Day 09: Trip around Lo Manthang Again you spend another day in Lo Manthang getting to know the place and getting an into how the people live in this remote and arid landscape. After having breakfast you will visit the raja’s Place which is an imposing four storey building in the centre of the city. Then you will hire a horse to visit some other villages in this area where you will observe the local culture, life style, tradition and warm heartedness of these people. Return back to Lo Manthang Camp. Over night at Lo Manthang. Day 10: Lo Manthang to Drakmar From Lo Manthang the trail climbs steadily offering a last glimpse of Lo Manthang. The trail climbs a ridge at 4070m and continues climbing to the Chogo La (4325m), the highest point on the trek. The trail makes a short, steep descent and crosses the Chharang River, then climbs to Lo Geker and reaches to Ghar gompa a small monastery. Climbing to the ridge, crossing a valley along some alpine meadows, and then dropping down a steep eroded path you will reach Drakmar. Over night at Drakmar. Day 11: Drakmar to Shyangmochen The trail descends passing the stone walls and fields of Drakmar, then climbs to a ridge and descends to the lower part of Ghemi and further descending you will reach to Jaite (3,820m) and descend again gently to Chhung-Kah. The trail then reaches to Tama Gaon (3710m) and continues descending to Shyangmochen. Overnight at Shyangmochen. Day 12: `Shyangmochen to Chhuksang From Shyangmochen the trail follows the quite stream all the way down to Chhuksang. Overnight at Chhuksang Day 13: Chhuksang to Kagbeni Trek back to Kagbeni from Chhuksang. Overnight at Kagbeni. Day 14: Kagbeni to Jomsom Trek back to Jomsom. Overnight at Jomsom. Day 15: Jomsom to Pokhara Fly back to Pokhara. Over night at Pokhara. Day 16: Pokhara to Kathmandu Drive back to Kathmandu. Hotel, B.B. Overnigtht at Kathmandu. Day 17: Transfer to the Airport for your onward destination.
